What is Sky Climb?

Sky Climb is Noillirk played as a balloon ride. You get the same ten daily prompts as everyone else, 30 seconds for each, while a small krill waits by a forest pond with three balloons tied on. Every answer the game accepts lifts it, and the more common your answer, the higher your krill floats: the board's #1 answer sends it furthest of all. A Daily you play here counts on the home page too.

How the climb works

Points become altitude. Your running total is your height, and nothing ever pulls the krill back down.

  1. 30 seconds a prompt

Each prompt names a category. Type the answer you think most people would give before the ring around the clock closes. A pass or a timeout scores nothing, and the krill holds its height.

  2. Five bands

Where your answer sits on our board puts it in one of five bands. Later questions count more: ×2 from question 3, ×3 from question 6, ×4 from question 9.

    • Off the Board10 points
    • Top 1025 points
    • Top 550 points
    • Runner-up75 points
    • #1 Answer100 points
  3. Points become height

Every point lifts the krill: 100 points take it to 30m, and a perfect Daily of 2,500 points ends at 14.0 km. The ruler on the right counts the height and marks what you pass, from the Eiffel Tower to the top of Everest.

  4. NEXT when you're ready

Tap the sky to skip the rise. Then the result panel shows your band, your points and the board's top five, and waits: press NEXT, or Enter, for the next prompt.

Question 7, above the snowline.
The result panel over fields, a river and a village: #1 Answer in large letters over a bar in its colour, 200 points and the board's top five.
After each rise: your band, your points and the board's top five.

18 zones, from a forest pond to orbit

Each zone has its own sky, scenery and creatures, and a banner names it as the krill climbs in. A perfect Daily ends in zone 10, The Jet Stream; Unlimited runs climb on from there.

Question 1 on the card while the krill waits on its three balloons above a pond and a dirt path on the forest floor, mushrooms and flowers around them.
Question 1, at the pond.
The krill rising through black storm clouds and slanting rain past a great snowy peak, the ruler counting up past 7,200 metres.
Through the storm.
The krill 257 km up among green curtains of aurora, glowing over the night side of the Earth far below.
Past the aurora, in an endless run.
  1. The Pond Path

    0m – 3m

Moss, ferns and a still pond. The balloons are ready.

  2. Among the Trunks

    3m – 30m

Trunks like pillars, and sunbeams slanting in between.

  3. The Treetops

    30m – 120m

The tallest trees give out here. Above them, only sky.

  4. Over the Valley

    120m – 800m

Fields, a river and a village, all shrinking fast.

  5. Into the Overcast

    800m – 2,000m

Grey cotton on both sides. The ground is gone.

  6. The Snowline

    2,000m – 5,000m

Snowfields and sharp ridges. The air turns thin and cold.

  7. Inside the Storm

    5,000m – 8,000m

Black cloud all round, rain blown sideways, then a flash.

  8. Everest Height

    8,000m – 9,500m

Level with the highest summit on Earth, snow streaming off it.

  9. Cruising Altitude

    9,500m – 12.0 km

Airliners draw white lines across the sky. The sun starts to sink.

  10. The Jet Stream

    12.0 km – 16.0 km

Wind faster than a train, and the sun going down in red.

  11. The Ozone Layer

    16.0 km – 30.0 km

Airliners are far below now. The last of the sunset clings to the curve of the world.

  12. The High Stratosphere

    30.0 km – 50.0 km

The sky overhead has gone black. Only balloons the size of stadiums get this high.

  13. The Mesosphere

    50.0 km – 80.0 km

Too thin to breathe, but thick enough to set grit from space alight.

  14. Noctilucent Clouds

    80.0 km – 100 km

Electric-blue ripples of ice, glowing over the night side of the world.

  15. The Karman Line

    100 km – 180 km

From here up, wings are no use at all. Only a rocket keeps climbing.

  16. The Aurora

    180 km – 350 km

Green curtains of light ripple over the poles, far beneath your feet.

  17. Station Orbit

    350 km – 450 km

A station laps the planet every hour and a half. Here comes the sunrise.

  18. Low Earth Orbit

    450 km – 2,000 km

Day on one side, night on the other, and satellites everywhere you look.

Challenge a friend to out-climb you

Every Daily ends with Share & challenge. It makes share cards with your height and zone, a short text and a challenge link. The text shows your height, your zone, a coloured circle for each answer and your title, but never the answers themselves.

A friend who opens the link plays the same ten prompts on the climb, with your krill rising beside theirs in its own colour and your name over its head. When yours is out of view, an arrow on their ruler shows your name and height, so they always know how far there is to go. The higher krill wins.

Unlimited runs of 10 or 20 prompts come with a link too. The full rules are on how to play and scoring.

Sky Climb FAQ

Short answers about the balloon stage.

Is Sky Climb a different game from Noillirk?

No. It's the same game on another stage: the same daily prompts, the same 30 seconds, the same board and the same points. Only the picture changes, from a crowd on a tabletop to a krill on balloons.

Does a Daily I play here count on the home page?

Yes. Both pages play today's Daily and keep it in the same place in this browser. Finish it here and the home page shows your result; stop halfway and either page picks up where you left off.

How high can the krill go?

A perfect Daily of 2,500 points reaches 14.0 km, up in the jet stream. A perfect 20-prompt Unlimited run reaches the mesosphere, and an endless run keeps rising past the aurora into low Earth orbit.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. Sky Climb is free and runs in the browser on a phone or a computer, with no sign-up. Your progress, your best heights and your streak are saved in this browser.

Can I play on the tabletop instead?

Yes. The home page has both stages, with a switch on its start screen, and it remembers the one you pick. This page always plays Sky Climb.
