A Krillion-style game on today's prompts

Same ten prompts as today's Noillirk. In this Krillion-style game, the rarest right answer wins.

Noillirk asks you to name what most people would say. Krillion-style turns that around: you still need a correct answer, but the more obvious it is, the less it is worth. Asked for a capital city in Europe, Paris barely scores, while Vaduz or Skopje score far more. If you have played Krillion, the idea will feel familiar. Here it runs on our own prompts, our own answer lists and our own scoring.

The Krillion-style Daily is free, with no account and nothing to install. Play in a phone or desktop browser, switch stages whenever you like, and come back tomorrow for a new set.

About thirty plain wooden figurines crowded onto one large cream tile on a wooden table, while a single yellow figurine stands alone on a small tile far across the table in the lamplight.
The crowd gathers on the obvious answer. The points are out on their own.

How to play Krillion-style

A Krillion-style Daily is ten prompts, half a minute each, one answer per prompt.

  1. Read the prompt.

Each one names a category, like a breed of dog, a moon in our solar system or a Beyoncé song.

  2. Type a right answer few people would give.

Small typos, plurals and common variants are recognised. If an answer isn't accepted, try another while the clock runs.

  3. See where it landed.

After each answer you get its band and points, a few rarer answers you could have said, and the five answers everyone says.

  4. Save your best for last.

Later prompts count for more, so an unusual find near the end is worth the most.

A pass or a timeout scores nothing for that prompt, and you move on to the next one.

How Krillion-style scoring works

Every accepted answer lands in one of five Krillion-style bands, from the answers everyone gives to the ones almost nobody finds. The band sets the base points, and the round's weight multiplies them.

The five Krillion-style bands
BandPointsWhich answers
Too Popular10The five answers at the top of the prompt's board, the ones nearly everyone says.
Common25Well-known answers close behind them.
Uncommon50Answers some people think of.
Hidden Gem75The long tail. On most prompts, most right answers live here.
Lone Wolf100One or two answers per prompt, hand-picked as the rarest good answers on the list.

Questions 1 and 2 count once, 3 to 5 twice, 6 to 8 three times and 9 and 10 four times. A Lone Wolf in the last question is 400 points, and a perfect day is 2,500.

Because Hidden Gem covers so much of each list, you don't need the single rarest answer to score well. Stay away from the obvious five and almost any correct answer earns solid points. In Krillion-style scoring, the Lone Wolf is the bonus for the player who finds the answer we were hoping someone would.

A five-step wooden staircase: a crowd of plain wooden figurines on the bottom step, four, three and two on the steps above, and one yellow figurine alone on the top step.
Each step up holds fewer answers and more points.

How Krillion-style differs from Noillirk

One set of prompts, two ways to score them.

Two matching round game boards side by side. On the left, a yellow figurine stands inside a crowd of plain figurines on the centre tile; on the right, the crowd stays in the centre while the yellow figurine stands alone on a tile at the board's edge.
Same table, same prompt: in Noillirk you want the crowd, in Krillion-style you want the empty corner.

The share circles are the same five in both modes, matched band for band: ⚪ for the lowest band up to 🟡 for the top one.

Krillion-style keeps its own streak, its own My Stats and its own daily leaderboard. Finishing one never marks the other as done, so you can play the same ten prompts both ways on the same day. Try Noillirk first, then come back and dodge every answer you just gave. Krillion players will recognise the goal; the bands, their names and their points are our own.

Krillion-style Daily or Unlimited

Play today's ten Krillion-style prompts, or as many as you like.

  • Daily. Ten prompts, the same ones as that day's Noillirk, in the same order and with the same weights. A new set arrives at midnight. Finishing it counts toward your Krillion-style streak and today's leaderboard.
  • Unlimited. Runs of 10, 20 or endless prompts from the whole question bank, in a new order every time. No streak and no cap. Krillion Unlimited has its own page.

Finish the Daily or a 10- or 20-prompt Unlimited run and you get a share text and a challenge link. A friend who opens it plays the same prompts, Krillion-style, and sees your answers after theirs. Your share text reads like this:

Four stages, one Krillion-style score

Switch the scene above at any time. Your prompts, answers and points stay the same.

Four small handmade dioramas in a row on a wooden table: a felt krill floating on balloons above a forest, a snowy mountain with a winding trail and cabins, a dark manor house with a glowing window and a lantern, and a little table with painted figurines and round tiles.
Four scenes, one score: pick the one you like and switch whenever you want.
  • Sky Climb. Your points lift our krill on its balloons. The fewer people say an answer, the higher you go.
  • Tabletop. The original wooden table. There is no crowd to win over here, just your points and the obvious answers you stepped around.
  • Frozen Peak. Each answer carries you further up a snowy trail, past pines and cabins.
  • Haunted Manor. Take your lantern through a house of strange rooms. Rarer answers open more of them.

An answer list that grows as you play

Krillion-style lives on the long tail, so it leans on you.

Each prompt has a prepared list of accepted answers, often more than a hundred. Unusual answers, the whole point of a Krillion-style game, are exactly where any list runs thin, so a correct answer may not be on ours yet. When that happens the game says “Not on our list yet” instead of calling you wrong.

A turned-down answer costs nothing but time, so try another. If you then pass or the clock runs out with that answer still typed, the result card offers “Should this count? Tell us”, and one tap sends it to us. Every answer the game turns down is also counted anonymously. We review them in batches, add the ones that should count, and each new answer gets its band automatically. The answer list keeps growing as more people play and submit answers, so every Krillion-style day is a little fairer than the one before.

A wooden index-card box full of blank cards, one new card standing taller than the rest, with a small stack of blank cards and a yellow figurine beside it.
Every answer you send in can become part of the list.

Questions about Krillion-style

Short answers about the Krillion-style Daily.

Is this Krillion?

No. Noillirk is an independent game we made. It isn't affiliated with Krillion or any other site. The Krillion-style mode is inspired by Krillion's idea of rewarding rare right answers, but the prompts, answer lists, bands and scoring are our own.

Is Krillion-style free?

Yes. The Krillion-style Daily has no paywall, no account and nothing to download. It runs in any phone or desktop browser.

Are the Krillion-style prompts the same as today's Noillirk?

Yes. The Daily uses the same ten prompts as that day's Noillirk, in the same order with the same weights. Only the scoring changes.

Why wasn't my answer accepted?

It may be wrong, or it may be right and just not on our list yet: rare answers are the hardest to list in advance. Try another while the clock runs. If you pass or run out of time with that answer typed, the result card has a “Should this count? Tell us” button. We review reports and add the answers that should count, so the list gets better the more people play.

How is the Lone Wolf answer chosen?

By hand. For each prompt we pick one or two answers from the rarest end of the list that are clearly correct and that a player could reasonably think of. They are the top Krillion-style band, worth 100 points before the question's weight.

Does Krillion-style affect my Noillirk streak?

No. Each mode keeps its own streak, stats and leaderboard in this browser, and finishing one never marks the other as done.

Can I play more than ten prompts a day?

Yes. Krillion Unlimited has runs of 10, 20 or endless prompts from the whole question bank.
